As the HR associate here at work, it is part of my job to listen to salesmen when they come in & try to sell us insurance plans, supplemental coverage, & other employee benefit programs. (this is one of the things I dislike most about my job BTW) Today we had a guy come into our office – well dressed, clean cut – and present us with some “pre-paid legal service” plan. I politely took his information & brochure and gave him my card and told him I would pass the info along to my boss. He asked me when he could check back & I told him not until Monday. I laid his stuff on my desk & thought little of it and continued with my work. A couple of hours later I picked up the brochure to read some of the “services” and for some reason his business card caught my eye. I studied it & just got the strangest feeling about him – why?? I don’t know. But I just felt uneasy about him. So I decided to Google his name. WELL!! The first thing that popped up was a lawsuit that he was involved in from 2007. And the whole document was available online! I read it & discovered he had been in trouble for basically insurance fraud!! His insurance sales license had been revoked over a year ago and there were several complaints against him for dishonest business practices. WOW!!! I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Well, then I thought – if his insurance licensed was revoked, I can’t imagine he is still licensed to sell legal services…my word isn’t that like an Oxymoron or something? Dishonest Fraud sells Legal Services? LOL! Anywho, I called the state insurance commissioner's office in Little Rock & discovered that he was in fact NOT licensed to sell stuff at ALL!! The lady couldn’t believe what he was trying to do & gave me his revoked license # and put me straight through to her boss. I just got his VM & left him a message. I hope this guy gets caught…I mean can you believe that?! Lesson learned? There are a lot of crooks out there so be careful what you buy in to!!
And by the way, can I just say that you can find almost ANYTHING on Google. :)
