I used to hate snakes & had no problem with them being slaughtered at any time. But being married to Jeff has helped me develop a much healthier respect for these animals. If it's not poisonous and posing a danger to you or your family, then I encourage you to just leave it alone. Now, I'm not asking you to go love up on 'em, or pet one, or campaign for a "National Save the Snake Day", or anything like that. I'm just asking that if you're like me, and you do not like snakes, please at least have an open mind about letting one live in your backyard, instead of butchering the poor thing!! Chances are - it's there because you have it's favorite food source in abundance...like mice!
So.....................Let the snakes live!!!!! Ok, there's my soap box for the day :)
Here are some pictures of our encounter with a HUGE rat snake Saturday. While we were "lost" on the dirt road, we found him....
Whoa, carefull Jeff!!
OH!!! Alas, Jeff was biten!!! You may not be able to make it out, but there are 3 tiny teeth marks right above his wedding ring (middle finger). Now, let this be a lesson that snakes will defend themselves when threatened!! But if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone.
I welcome comments & thoughts - just be nice!

ps. sorry to come across as a snake hater...i dont hate them all that much...just the poisonous ones. i think their bad rep started in the garden of eden.
hey this is Jared, I know you all from metro, My wife is terrified of snakes, I am not. Jeff is a man of the wild it seems. I like snakes until they bit you, which I've never been bitten before actually. I haven't seen enough snakes to get bit I guess.
I think a lot of people have bad ideas about snakes because of the Adam and Eve.
i'll never forget driving out to our land and opening the door to a huge king snake. harmless i know, but i closed the car door, locked it, and wouldn't come out! later that week home sweet home in the city, i saw one crawling across our front porch (at our old house)! a garter (sp?) snake. harmless again, but i don't like the slithery things. i know the non-poisonous ones eat other things i don't like....i just don't want to see them. ignorance is bliss!
